Safety and reporting
Why KIFOV points you to other services instead of taking reports itself, and how to report safely.
What KIFOV does and does not do
KIFOV does not receive reports of abuse, investigate individual cases, or accept images, videos or files of any kind. Our Report a Concern pages tell you where to report, so that what you know reaches people with the training and legal powers to act.
Why
Reports about a child at risk need trained staff, a tested process, secure systems, and a legal basis to receive and pass on information. National hotlines, child protection services and the police have these. A new organisation collecting the same reports would add delay and risk:
- Delay. Every extra step between a report and the people who can act costs time a child may not have.
- Risk to evidence. Copies of messages or images passed between organisations can compromise an investigation.
- Risk to you. In most countries it is a crime to possess or share sexual images of children, including to "report" them. Hotlines are set up to receive web addresses, not files.
If you find sexual images or videos of a child online
- Do not download, screenshot, save or forward them.
- Copy the web address of the page.
- Report it to your national hotline. INHOPE lists hotlines by country, and our Report a Concern page lists the services we have checked.
- Close the page. If what you saw stays with you, it is normal to need support; talking to someone helps.
When this could change
KIFOV may in future accept general, non-urgent information about risks to children for research, without any identifying details of children and without attachments. We will do so only once we have trained staff, a published process, a retention policy and legal advice, and this page will set out exactly what we accept, how it is handled and what we can and cannot do with it.
Your safety on this site
You can use Get Help and Report a Concern without giving any personal information. The Quick exit button leaves the site at once, but it does not delete your browser history. If you are worried someone may check your device, use your browser's private mode.
