For children and young people
If something online, or anywhere else, has made you scared, worried or uncomfortable, you can get help. It is not your fault.
You are not in trouble
If someone has asked you for photos, sent you things you did not want to see, threatened you, or made you feel unsafe, it is not your fault. Even if you did something you now regret, you still deserve help, and there are people whose job is to help you.
Talk to someone
- A trusted adult. A parent or carer, a teacher, a school counsellor, a relative, or the parent of a friend.
- A child helpline. Many countries have a free helpline for young people. You can call, chat or message, and you do not always have to give your name. Find one where you live.
If you are in danger right now, call your country's emergency number.
If someone is threatening to share a photo of you
This is called sexual extortion, or sextortion. The person doing it is often using a fake account and pretending to be someone else. What they are doing is a crime, and the blame is theirs, not yours.
- Stop replying, and do not pay or send anything else. Paying rarely makes it stop.
- Do not delete your account or the messages yet. They can help to stop the person.
- Tell an adult you trust, or a child helpline.
- Report the account using the app's report button.
- Get the image taken down. If the image was taken when you were under 18, Take It Down can help stop it being shared on many platforms, without you sending the image to anyone. In the UK, you can use Report Remove.
If you are being bullied
Save what was said (a screenshot is fine), block the person, and report them in the app. Tell someone you trust. If it is happening at school, the school has a duty to help.
If you are thinking about hurting yourself
Please tell someone today. A helpline can listen, without judging, any time. You can find crisis lines for your country on our Get Help page. If you might act on these feelings soon, call the emergency number or go to a hospital emergency department.
