Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it in the open.
Our commitment
If we publish something that is wrong, we correct it as quickly as we can and say so on the page. We do not quietly rewrite published work.
How corrections appear
Each publication has an Updates and corrections section at the end. Every substantive change is recorded there with its date and a plain description of what changed and why. The "Updated" date at the top of the piece moves only for substantive changes, not for typos or formatting.
- A correction fixes a factual error.
- A clarification makes something clearer without changing the facts.
- An update adds new information that has become available since publication.
If a piece is so wrong that it cannot be fixed, we withdraw it and leave a notice explaining why.
Help directory
Help listings show the date we last checked them. If a phone number, link or description is wrong, please tell us and we will check it, normally before anything else.
Requesting a correction or a right of reply
Contact the editors and tell us which page, what you believe is wrong, and any evidence. If you or your organisation are the subject of something we have published and want to respond, use the same route.
